A New Addition

From time to time the contributors to sbcIMPACT! have some noteworthy news to share with our readers. Today is that time. Hannah (my wife) and I are pleased to announce that we are expecting! The photo for this post is not just your run-of-the-mill Google Image Search picture. It is our as-yet-unborn baby!
This will be the first grandchild on Hannah’s side, and the third on mine, though if it turns out to be a boy, it will be the first grandson and the first boy to carry the Wencl name since my cousin was born fourteen years ago. There are only five Wencl boys left, and only two of us are likely to be having children anytime soon. So I’m hoping for a boy. But I would be equally excited about having a girl (and my wife will attest to that too!).
Since we’re only in week 10 (2 1/2 months), we don’t know much. The baby seems healthy, has a good heartbeat, and Mommy-to-be is nauseous, which is a sign that things are normal. Apparently mood swings, strange food cravings, and midnight trips to the bathroom are also normal, but Hannah seems to be putting up with me
. We have a due date of September 23, 2011, so Hannah will have to suffer through an agonizingly hot summer.
There’s plenty to pray for, from the health of mother and child, to the sanity of all involved. Our families live about six hours away from us, but we have a good church family here that loves us and treats us like blood-relatives. We’ve never been parents before, so we’re looking forward to learning from our mistakes along the way.
I’m blogging periodically about this on my personal blog, andrewwencl.blogspot.com. Please check it out for updates on our progress. Even if you don’t, you should still read my recent post about finding out the baby’s gender. It’s a brave new world!
