The Power of Chronological Bible Storying
Posted by Geoff Baggett in IMPACT Features
This is an old video from New Tribes missions. It tells the story of the Mouk people of New Guinea … and how a group of New Tribes missionaries reached them with the Gospel through Chronological Bible Storying.
It is a powerful and moving video. You DEFINITELY don’t want to miss the end!

Geoff,
Great video. What a wonderful celebration of God’s grace! Wouldnt that be something to get passed around the crowd like that because you shared the Gospel with people who willingly embraced it?
CBS can be very useful in introducing the Gospel to people. I dont think that anyone denies that; do they? I believe that some people are concerned that CBS and CBS type sermons be promoted as the way to preach to people who are saved. We must go from CBS type preaching to expository preaching as soon as we can if we want people to grow in thier faith.

Amazing video, Geoff. Thanks.
What was that about the Zooks being too old and rejected by their mission board? I’m very glad they were determined and God made a way for them to go anyway.
Let’s get Mark Zook on here for a post!
I’m speechless. Wow.
Roger,
The IMB and NAMB have been turning people away for years who have felt to go to the mission field because they were either too fat, or too old, or had children that were the wrong age, or who didnt fit thier aptitude charts, etc. This has been going on for years and years.
I’m glad that the Zooks went on anyway.

Geoff and everyone,
Have yall watched the follow up video about the Mouk Tribe? It’s also very good and worth the time to watch it. Here’s a link to it….

Our church is closely tied to the folks that began the CBS approach.. Trevor McIlwain is preaching for me in August, and his nephew is a member of our church serving in New Guinea.
We are blessed to have fellowship with these folks.

Did you guys notice how long it took them to get to salvation in those films?
True, CBS is effective, but the loss of lives to Hell in the meantime is the reason they developed strategies like T4T and the oral version TrT. These methods get them the Gospel quickly, get them quickly to church for those who are ready, and then move into the long haul of working slowly through each major Bible story.
TrT is excellent and works really well. It also moves smoothly into whatever ‘next level’ you desire, whether CBS or expository teaching.
I agree with Brother Shadrach & disagree with Brother Volfan. CBS can be an invaluable tool in the discipleship process of folks who are illiterate, but the newer versions (including One Story) seem to be better for broad seed-sowing. Then again, we can’t really put God in our methodological boxes!
May His mercy abound to all,
